Matthew 13:23 The seed that fell on good soil represents those who truly hear and understand God’s word and produce a harvest of thirty, sixty, or even a hundred times as much as had been planted!”
To hear God our hearts need to be good soil.
1 Samuel 3:1-10
We are not living in those days
1 Samuel 3:1 Now in those days messages from the Lord were very rare, and visions were quite uncommon.
God is always speaking. You must choose to listen.
God wants to talk to you. So He makes it easy. Not hard.
In His Presence
1 Samuel 3:3 The lamp of God had not yet gone out, and Samuel was sleeping in the Tabernacle near the Ark of God.
The Ark represents presence.
You will find it difficult to hear from God outside His presence.
The evil one does not want you to hear God. He knows you hear God louder in His presence so he will put things in the way to stop the presence.
Jantzen Franklin called them weapons of mass distraction – Facebook, Twitter, periscope, snapchat, television, music, gossip, social life, workouts, kids activities, family activities, busyness. When we are distracted, presence goes out the window.
To hear God you have to cultivate His presence.
It takes humility
1 Samuel 3:10 And the Lord came and called as before, “Samuel! Samuel!”And Samuel replied, “Speak, your servant is listening.”
Hearing from God only occurs through an attitude of submission.
It takes faith
Hearing God’s voice takes faith. He is unseen. It will not be an audible voice. Samuel stepped out in faith. He heard God for the rest of his life. Hearing God’s voice will always take faith.
But how do I know it’s not my voice or Satan’s voice?
Romans 10:17 So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
