“It takes a village to raise a child.”
Rewritten: It takes a village to support the parents who raise a child.
We live in a society where village is a foreign concept. And where community is becoming more individualistic and participants more and more selfish.
Mothers need a village.
But the village is gone and so are the healthy role models, a proper grip on reality, adequate support and a moral compass.

Ephesians 1:22 (MSG) At the center of all this, Christ rules the church. The church, you see, is not peripheral to the world; the world is peripheral to the church. The church is Christ’s body, in which he speaks and acts, by which he fills everything with his presence.

Some women find their village at their workplace. Others at the local gym. School, soccer club, the tavern, Tuesday tennis, online community, etc.
The village every woman longs for is this one. Only the church will give you the reality, support & compass you need.
Village gives Reality

God’s reality of who you are.

Ephesians 1:5 God decided in advance to adopt us into his own family by bringing us to himself through Jesus Christ. This is what he wanted to do, and it gave him great pleasure.

2 Corinthians 5:21 For God made Christ, who never sinned, to be the offering for our sin, so that we could be made right with God through Christ.

Romans 8:1 So now there is no condemnation for those who belong to Christ Jesus.

Ephesians 2:10 For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.

Role models in the Bible.

Deborah – wife, mother, leader, judge

Priscilla – preacher in face of persecution

Esther – stands up to a bully

Sarah – most beautiful woman, mother of the faith

Generational mothers

2 Timothy 1:5 I remember your genuine faith, for you share the faith that first filled your grandmother Lois and your mother, Eunice. And I know that same faith continues strong in you.

Hebrews 12:1 Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us.
Reality of time
Instant gratification – don’t even drive to video or music store. Book store.
We want God to work the same – miracle, now.

Genesis 8:22 “As long as the earth endures, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night will never cease.”

Hebrews 6:15 Then Abraham waited patiently, and he received what God had promised.

Abraham waited 25 years.
David waited 15 years.
Joseph waited 13 years.

Psalm 105:19 Until the time came to fulfill his dreams, the Lord tested Joseph’s character.

Jesus waited 30 years.

Hebrews 10:35-36 So do not throw away your confidence; it will be richly rewarded. You need to persevere so that when you have done the will of God, you will receive what he has promised.

Village provides Support

Hebrews 10:24-25 And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.

You have to come to church to be spurred on. Naomi & Ruth spurred each other.
Village provides a Compass
Once kids had manners. Once kids had respect. Once kids stood up for a man with a cane on a bus instead of looking at their phone.
They don’t have a compass.
What’s normal? There is no normal.
True north still exists. Truth is not relative. Truth is the Word.

John 17:17 Make them holy by your truth; teach them your word, which is truth.

Psalm 26:3 For I am always aware of your unfailing love, and I have lived according to your truth

John 1:17 For the law was given through Moses, but grace and truth came through Jesus Christ

John 8:32 And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.

You need to know the truth. Not just nice ideas. Opinions.
In church we talk about truth.
