The Power Of Two

1 Samuel 14:1-15

It is not just the power of one. There is power in two.

Ecclesiastes 4:9-12 Two people are better off than one, for they can help each other succeed. If one person falls, the other can reach out and help. But someone who falls alone is in real trouble. Likewise, two people lying close together can keep each other warm. But how can one be warm alone? A person standing alone can be attacked and defeated, but two can stand back-to-back and conquer. Three are even better, for a triple-braided cord is not easily broken.

In marriage you are two. There is great power on marriage.

No one had a sword
1 Samuel 13:22 So on the day of the battle none of the people of Israel had a sword or spear, except for Saul and Jonathan.

No wonder everyone left. They couldn’t defend themselves.

The armour bearer partnered with someone who had a sword.

Does your partner have a sword? Ps45 look for a warrior. Look for someone who will pray with and for you. Look for a man who can wield the sword of the Spirit.

Too many times we partner with those who don’t have a sword. Gossipers. Pessimists.

We look at what we don’t have and give up. But they had two swords. They won the battle with just one!

Faith of One
1 Samuel 14:6 “Let’s go across to the outpost of those pagans,” Jonathan said to his armor bearer. “Perhaps the Lord will help us, for nothing can hinder the Lord. He can win a battle whether he has many warriors or only a few!”

Never underestimate what God can do. How God can turn it around.

Becomes the faith of Two
1 Samuel 14:7 “Do what you think is best,” the armor bearer replied. “I’m with you completely, whatever you decide.”

1 Samuel 14:7(NIV) “Do all that you have in mind,” his armor-bearer said. “Go ahead; I am with you heart and soul.”

1 Samuel 14:7 (Voice) Armor-bearer: Do whatever you think is right, and I will follow you. My decision will be your decision.

Sounds familiar. Didn’t Ruth say something like that?

I am with you completely.
I am with you… as long as you make me happy.
I am with you… but sign this prenup.
I am with you… as long as I feel in love.
I am with you… if you behave a certain way.

You can’t be with someone by halves. It doesn’t work.

Hard work
1 Samuel 14:13-14 So they climbed up using both hands and feet, and the Philistines fell before Jonathan, and his armor bearer killed those who came behind them. They killed some twenty men in all, and their bodies were scattered over about half an acre.

The power of two takes work.

They put faith in action. It’s not always easy.
