Who Stinks?

Exodus 5:21 The foremen said to them, “May the Lord judge and punish you for making us stink before Pharaoh and his officials. You have put a sword into their hands, an excuse to kill us!”

What stinks to God.

God does not care about the outward appearance, smelly armpits, smelly feet. He cares about the heart.

1 Samuel 16:7 But the Lord said to Samuel, “Don’t judge by his appearance or height, for I have rejected him. The Lord doesn’t see things the way you see them. People judge by outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.”

He cares about who we worship.

Exodus 12:1 On that night I will pass through the land of Egypt and strike down every firstborn son and firstborn male animal in the land of Egypt I will execute judgment against all the gods of Egypt for I am the Lord.

Exodus 7:21 The fish in the river died, and the water became so foul that the Egyptians couldn’t drink it. There was blood everywhere throughout the land of Egypt.

Exodus 8:14 The Egyptians piled them into great heaps, and a terrible stench filled the land.

Your worship stinks because your gods are worthless.
You get rid of stink by taking a blood bath.

Exodus 11:4 Moses had announced to Pharaoh, “This is what the Lord says: At midnight tonight I will pass through the heart of Egypt.

Death wandered through Egypt killing every first born son. But death could not touch those covered by the blood.

Exodus 12:13 But the blood on your doorposts will serve as a sign, marking the houses where you are. When I see the blood, I will pass over you. This plague of death will not touch you when I strike the land of Egypt.

The Israelites could not enter their Promised Land still smelling like Egypt. And we cannot enter our Promised land without first allowing the Blood to cleanse us of all sin.

1 John 1:7 But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin.

The smell will vanish.

Exodus 14:13-14 But Moses told the people, “Don’t be afraid. Just stand still and watch the Lord rescue you today. The Egyptians you see today will never be seen again. The Lord himself will fight for you. Just stay calm.”

When Jesus transforms your life you will never smell like Egypt again. He makes all things new.
God is changing the way you smell to the world

2 Corinthians 2:15 Our lives are a Christ-like fragrance rising up to God. But this fragrance is perceived differently by those who are being saved and by those who are perishing.

Do you stink to your family? Co-worker? Friend?
There is a turn around. The world is turning to Jesus. Christian values will no longer stink. Sexual intimacy between a husband and wife will no longer stink or be mocked. Respect and honour will no longer stink.
The darkness is so thick you can feel it in Egypt but it’s clear as day in Goshen.
